Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) is proposing the Runway 9-27 Extension Project to meet the current and future needs of its operators and the business aviation community.

FXE’s primary runway, Runway 9-27, currently measures 6,002 feet, which creates operational constraints for many jet aircraft. These limitations often require weight reductions or intermediate refueling stops, reducing efficiency, and limiting direct access to medium- and long-haul destinations. FXE is proposing a 1,000-foot extension at the western end of Runway 9, increasing the available takeoff distance to 7,002 feet and enabling aircraft to depart at full fuel capacity.

This airfield improvement, originally identified in the Airport Master Plan, incorporates a displaced threshold—a designated point on the runway where aircraft must begin their landing roll. While the full 7,002 feet will be available for takeoffs, the landing distance for Runway 9 remains unchanged relative to current approach procedures, ensuring existing landing operations are preserved while enhancing departure capabilities.

The project will be designed in accordance with Airplane Design Group (ADG) III standards, as outlined in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5300-13B, Airport Design-Change 1.
