FXE EAGLE
Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) is committed to advancing environmental stewardship and cultivating innovation in aviation. In alignment with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and industry-wide efforts to transition all general aviation piston-engine aircraft to unleaded fuel by 2030, FXE launched FXE EAGLE, a dedicated program offering education, resources, and outreach to pilots and aircraft owners. FXE EAGLE reflects FXE’s ongoing commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future for general aviation.
Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions (EAGLE)
The FAA launched the Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions (EAGLE) initiative in response to a congressionally mandated report from the National Academies. EAGLE is a collaborative effort involving the aviation and petroleum industries, U.S. government stakeholders, and other interested parties, all working together to transition piston-engine aircraft to lead-free aviation fuels by the end of 2030. The goal is to maintain the safety, reliability, and economic vitality of the General Aviation industry. Read more about EAGLE.
Unleaded Fuel Status Updates
EAGLE is advancing multiple approaches to ensure a safe, lead-free solution that works across the diverse piston-engine fleet. The following fuel candidates are currently in development:
- G100UL (General Aviation 100 Unleaded) — 100-octane unleaded avgas approved via an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC).
- 100R (Swift Fuels 100R) — 100-octane unleaded avgas received its first FAA STC approval in 2024 for use in Cessna 172R/S aircraft with Lycoming IO-360-L2A engines.
- UL100E — High-octane unleaded avgas currently undergoing full-scale testing through the FAA’s Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI).
Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport encourages all pilots and aircraft owners to explore the benefits of transitioning to unleaded fuels. Pilots and operators should consult their aircraft's STC and engine manufacturer before switching fuels.

Transition Plan to Unleaded Aviation Gasoline
The FAA has released a draft Transition Plan to Unleaded Aviation Gasoline (Plan) as required by Section 827 of the 2024 FAA Reauthorization Act. The Plan provides a framework for transitioning the general aviation fleet from 100-octane low-lead (100LL) fuel to unleaded alternatives. The FAA is receiving public comments on the Plan up to March 13, 2026. Learn more.
Swift Fuels 100-Octane Unleaded Approval
In September 2025, Swift Fuels 100-octane unleaded (swift 100R) became the most recent fuel to receive approval.
