This past June, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department opened its facilities to 25 middle school students for their annual Junior Fire Explorers Summer Camp. The week of activities allowed campers to experience the various career paths and responsibilities of the Fire Rescue Department.
Hosted at Station 53, located onsite at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, the campers participated in activities such as emergency preparedness, search and rescue, lift and carry techniques, and hands-only CPR, as well as enjoyed an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle demonstration.
The campers toured facilities that illustrated the importance of various roles within the Fire Rescue team, such as the Fire Rescue Dispatch Center, the City’s Emergency Operations Center, Fire Station 53 and Executive Airport. In addition, the campers were given the opportunity to visit airport businesses and emergency service entities who were eager to participate in this extraordinary educational experience.
